Chinese smartphone company Huawei today said it along with an Indian partner has launched an online store to sell its smartphones and accessories. ”We have upgraded our HiHonor.com website to open an online store for Honor smartphones and accessories. Now Honor customers will be able to directly buy from this wesbite,” Huawei India President (Consumer Business Group) Allen Wang said at an event.
While Huawei is providing online platform, the inventory will be managed and sold by its Indian partner Vision Distribution Private Limited. The announcement came a day after the government allowed 100 percent FDI in e-commerce market places. When asked if Huawei’s e-commerce business plan is in sync with the FDI policy, Wang said, “The guidelines were announced yesterday. We will tune our business, if required, to comply with law of the land.”
“We are just providing them space to sell product,” Wang said.
Huawei has partnered with Flipkart and
Amazon to sell Honor smartphones. In 2015, Huawei sold 1 million smartphones in India with most of the contribution coming from Honor brand. The company also roped in badminton player Saina Nehwal as it brand ambassador.
“Recently we also enrolled Lionel Messi the ace footballer as our global brand ambassador and Saina Nehwal is another person who has countered all challenges to become the first woman Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal,” Wang said.
The company has signed one year contract with Nehwal and is yet to finalise branding campaign featuring her, Wang said.
“I’m very thrilled to be associated with the brand Honor and resonate its philosophy of being a brand ‘For the brave.’ Being brave takes a lot of focus, courage and commitment and also gives you an edge to redefine possibilities,” Nehwal said
