HTC has announced a new smartphone in its Desire series, called the HTC Desire 650. Initially codenamed the Desire A17, the smartphone was expected to be launched alongside the HTC Bolt which was recently launched in the US. The HTC Desire 650 stands in the budget segment as it will be reportedly priced around $170 which roughly translates to around Rs 11,700. The smartphone is currently listed on the official website and is set to be launched in its home country of Taiwan early next month. As of now, there is no word on whether the smartphone will hit global markets.

The HTC Desire 650 somehow looks identical to the HTC Desire 630 but stands out for its look and design. The smartphone has a textured back panel with flow lines running horizontally which not only gives a unique look but also makes for good grip. The HTC Desire 650’s two color options also make the smartphone look out. One of the smartphones comes in a midnight blue color with the rim of the rear camera lens in navy blue and the HTC logo on the back panel in navy blue as well. As for the other variant, it is covered in white, with the rear camera and the HTC logo in neon yellow color.

The HTC Desire 650 smartphone is equipped with some features which for one is the “Night Mode”. The display of the smartphone will automatically adjust when it is in a low light environment. HTC Freestyle allows users to make their own illustrations of app icons which can be either linked to the original app or can be used as the official icon itself. As seen in HTC smartphones, the HTC Desire 650 smartphone also comes packed with thousands of different themes. One can also use their own photos, and add their own style to create a personalized theme.

For smooth functioning of the smartphone, it is equipped with Boost and an inbuilt Smart Boost function which removes memory and junk files to essentially boost the phone’s performance. For audio, the smartphone is equipped with HTC’s BoomSound which is best experienced with a headset. The HTC Desire 650 also comes with compatible audio-visual equipment and three-finger swipe gesture, along with functions like Pick up Mute and Pocket Mode.

The HTC Desire 650 comes with a standard set of specifications for an entry-level smartphone. To start with, the smartphone features a 5-inch LCD HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Under the hood of the smartphone, runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset, whose model number is not known as yet. The HTC Desire 650 comes with 2GB of RAM and onboard storage of 16GB, which is further expandable to 2TB via a microSD card. For power, the smartphone uses a 2,200mAh battery which comes with power saving mode and extreme power saving mode as well.

In the photography department, the HTC Desire 650 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, f/2.2 aperture, panorama shooting angle up to 180 degrees and HDR mode. Up front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.8 aperture, HDR mode, full HD 1080p video recording capability and features like auto self-timer, Voice Self, Instant skin and Touch shooting. Both the cameras are equipped with BSI sensors which help in taking pictures when there is low light. The connectivity options provided by the HTC Desire 650 include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS and AGPS. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Sense 8 UI, but there is no news if HTC would eventually upgrade it to Android Nougat.
