Mumbai: The world's leading PC maker HP is already a player in the Android tablet segment, although with limited success. Now, HP is reportedly planning to return to the smartphone space with two new large-screen smartphones, or phablets, which is a fast-growing category.
TheInformation reports that the company plans to release new six- and seven-inch phones by the end of the year. These phones will be targeted at markets such as India, China, and the Philippines. They will be sold off-contract for a price somewhere between $200 and $250. With the year end mere a week away, we wonder if HP plans to announce the phablets later this week.
HP's last two smartphone efforts - its iPaq devices and Palm devices, the handset maker it acquired in 2010 - weren't exactly successes, but that hasn't stopped the rumour mills from talking about an Android phone.
