Seeking Help Hotel booking websites are genuine or not?

Planning to visit North East India(Sikkim). So thinking to book hotel by MMT /GoIbibo.
Are they genuine ? Do I need to verify from hotel management that my Booking will be granted or not if booking done from those site.
Or I should go there and search hotel for booking

Actually last time when my cousin visited Manali they refused to check-in. Better you cordinate with hotel before booking.
