Indicating support to net neutrality, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha on Wednesday called for access to high speed broadband to be available to all Indians.

"Access to high speed broadband should be available to every citizen, without any restrictions," Sinha said at the 10th India Digital Summit organised by Internet and Mobile Association of India.

"There are three vectors for the transformation (in India) - internet and mobile; green technology and transportation. All of them are inter-linked and technology is the secret sauce for India's transformation," he added.

About technology and Jan Dhan Yojna programme, Sinha said: "If you look at it, it is technology which is driving most of the programmes of the government.

"The social security platform, which the government is working on is dependent on technology. Technology will be pivotal for social security, as it will enable a transparent system with digital audit trail."

Why so much fuss about internet? Did any one in the past say that a telephone connection is should be available to every citizen? No one gives a telephone connection for free. Then why should internet be given free? One must pay for use. Except may be water, nothing can be provided for free (Even govt subsidized wheat, rice, etc are not provided FREE to any one, they are given at huge discount).
This FREE culture of entitlement must end. One must be made aware that earning a livelihood is necessary for ones survival, unless someone is so wealthy that they can afford to sleep day and night.

The best govt can do is provide free govt services to all farmers via mobile internet (2g should be enough for that). Beyond that, one must pay up. And mobile internet infrastructure is already provided by BSNL in every possible area where private operator will never dream of providing any service. So govt is already doing its job - that of creating infra and last mile connectivity to max possible area.
