Harbhajan Singh, the veteran offspinner, will return to cricket after a hiatus of eight months to lead Punjab in the upcoming domestic Twenty20 tournament, starting January 29. The Bhupinder Singh Sr.-led senior selection committee of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) met on Monday (January 23) to pick the side for the T20 tournament.
While the ace spinner will skipper his state side, Gurkeerat Singh Mann will be his deputy.
Punjab's campaign begins on January 29 against Haryana in Bilaspur, followed by matches in Dharamshala against Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Services and Himachal Pradesh. The team starts for their first destination on Friday (January 27) with their coach Arun Sharma and bowling coach Harvinder Singh.
The 36-year-old has 190 wickets in the Twenty20 arena, besides 417 Test scalps and 269 ODI wickets. His rich experience is expected to bolster Punjab in the upcoming tournament.
Harbhajan plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and boasts of 119 wickets. He has also captained Mumbai Indians to their maiden Champions League title win in 2011, in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar.
