Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh started a new spell in life - that of fatherhood - on Wednesday after the news of his wife Geeta Basra giving birth to a baby girl in London broke.
The news of Harbhajan and his actress wife Geeta welcoming a daughter into their family was confirmed by the off-spinner's mother Avtar Kaur, according to a report on DNA .
The report further stated that Harbhajan had earlier flown to London to be with his pregnant wife. Kaur wished both her son as well as daughter-in-law after news of the arrival of her grand-daughter reached her. She went on to add that both the mother and the child were perfectly healthy.
Harbhajan and Geeta tied the knot in a lavish wedding ceremony at the former's ancestral home in Jalandhar on 29 October last year. The two had been dating for five years prior to their wedding. Several notable cricketers and personalities from other walks of life, including Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, were present at the event.
The off-spinner was nicknamed 'Turbanator' after his exploits against Australia in the home Test series in 2001, in which he took 32 wickets in the three-Test series.
Harbhajan formed a formidable spin combination with Anil Kumble under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly during the previous decade. With 417 Test, 269 ODI and 25 T20I scalps in a career that spans nearly two decades, Harbhajan is one of the decorated Indian bowlers of all time.
