GURGAON: Three years after Haryana Roadways first decided to install GPS in buses, commuters will finally get to travel in GPS-
installed buses from Monday (September 1)."Starting from September 1 we will install GPS in 40 to 50 buses every day. By
September 21, all the buses should be GPS-enabled. Besides, we will also set up a cell to
monitor the GPS-enabled buses,"
Rohit Yadav,general manager, Haryana Roadways (Gurgaon), said.
Once the GPS system is installed, the buses will be relatively safer for commuters and the department's call centre will be able to keep tabs on the movement of buses. "We will
create a centre in a few days to keep a check on the movement of buses," a senior official of Haryana Roadways said."Initially, the GPS will be installed only in the city buses followed by the highway buses. But by the end of September, all buses will get
GPS-enabled," said Yadav.
Haryana Roadways has also deputed a vendor to improve its website to perk up online traffic on the portal. "Though the improvement of website is an expensive exercise, we have appointed the vendor with
an undertaking that they will further be appointed to develop an application only after the online traffic increases on the
website. Until then, there will be no cost commitment from our side," said Yadav.The application, once launched, will provide information of all city routes and timings, and
of the highway buses of Haryana Roadways.
The department is yet to get a green light from the head office of Haryana Roadways for the development of the application.
"While we wait for a go-ahead from the head office, we would like to see the traffic volume
increase on our website," said Yadav.
