Smartphones can do lots of things: browse the internet, play games, send text messages, share experiences with SNS, take wild pictures with dynamic filters, keep track of fitness stats. Oh, right. They can also make telephone calls. Yes, in 2016 these digital devices can do so much – including VoIP – the entire existence of their progenitor is an almost ironic omission from the lives and considerations of many a mobile user. For all those who do makenormal calls however, there is now something special to select.
Google’s stock Dialer has been around since the origin of Android, but until now it’s basically been restricted to Nexus devices. Things have changed however, as the app can now be used with many different products, including the Samsung Galaxy S7, the LG G5, the HTC 10, the OnePlus One, the Moto X Pure, etc. Android Police notes that,
Beginning with the v2.05 update, you can install Google’s version on most other phones too. This update rolled out a few weeks ago, but it seems that people are still just noticing, so let’s get this all out in the open.
By installing the application, users will have access to a variety of smart features such as call blocking, visual speed dialing, smart caller ID, visual voicemail, and the ability to search for nearby locals via the search bar. It’s a welcome change of pace, or even upgrade, over some of the more standard, simple servings that third party OEMs have shipped with their smartphones.
Note that the Dialer may not work with all older models. For users with Android Marshmallow running on their phones, full functionality will require allowing it access to the device’s contact list, calling history, and location, according to the new security settings put in place by the granular App Permissions system introduced.
