Google has been providing Wi-Fi services in India under ‘RailWire’. Many railway stations in India are now equipped with Wi-Fi facility as the Railway Ministry with Google’s RailWire is successfully enabling Wi-Fi connections. Google has now extended its support to the Maharashtra government to make Mumbai a ‘Wi-Fi city’. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis concluded his official trip to the US today where he met with senior representatives from Google to discuss making Mumbai a Wi-Fi city. Fadnavis met a team of Google which was led by Vinay Goel.

“A team of Google led by Vinay Goel met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in San Francisco and extended their support to make Mumbai a Wi-Fi city,” a statement from Chief Minister’s office said. Fadnavis also met California Governor Jerry Brown and discussed issues related to clean energy, environment and urbanization. Brown and Fadnavis both discussed possible ways to collaborate between state of California and Maharashtra government for clean energy, the statement said. Google’s RailWire free Wi-Fi service was recently launched in eight railway stations in Mumbai. Google also revealed that more than two million Indians are using the
Wi-Fi services across 23 railway stations that Google has provided as a part of its project.

RailWire free Wi-Fi facility was launched at eight suburban stations in Mumbai coupled with a host of other passenger amenities at various destinations. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who inaugurated the broadband internet facility at eight major stations reaffirmed that his ministry was doing every bit to ease the commute and raise the bar of comfort for rail passengers. Of the eight Wi-Fi powered stations, five, including Churchgate, Bandra, BandraTerminus, Dadar (WR) and Khar Road, are on the Western Railway line, while the rest — Kalyan, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Dadar (CR)– are on Central Railway line.
