Google is looking forward to foray into battery market as per a latest report from the Wall Street Journal .

The report states that Google X Research Labs is said to be working on several new battery technologies.

As per the report Google is working on a solid-state battery in the form of thin-film. Solid-state, thin-film batteries offer better battery life and are thinner and
lighter than our existing batteries.

The team working on the battery consists of just four people, and is led by
Dr. Ramesh Bhardwaj, a former Apple battery expert who joined Google in late 2012. The four-man team is working within the company’s semi-secret facility, trying to improve the existing lithium-ion technology as well as develop new ones.

These solid- state and thin-film batteries are ideal for powering cutting-edge computing and other industries its self-driving cars as well as more general
healthcare(smart contact lens), robotics, and communications groups. Also, they could be used in smartphones and other mobile devices that are thinner,
bendable, wearable and even implantable in the human
body.

Traditional batteries freeze at high temperatures, and so Google X engineers are coating them in blends
of wax and graphite in a way that makes the heat diffuse more evenly.
