Google has rolled out new features to its cloud storage service, Google Drive, to help transfer content from iOS devices to Android. Google announced on Twitter yesterday that Drive now supports photo, video, contact and calendar event transfers, enabled through the iOS Drive app.

To make use of the service, iOS users must first install Google Drive to their iPhone and navigate to the Backup page in the Settings menu. After selecting the content they want to keep, hitting Start Backup will begin the sync process to the Cloud. Once it’s complete, users can open Drive on their new Android handset and their files will appear there.

Google says the process could take several hours, depending on how much content there is to back up, and also provides details on how to carry out similar transfers for music and emails at Android.com.

The news arrives ahead of the holiday season which will no doubt see many new Android phones activated. Check out our holiday gift guide if you’re looking for some advice on what to get your loved ones
