As expected, Google has announced its take on the Amazon Echo. Google Home is a hands-free voice activated interactive speaker that can perform simple tasks for you. You can enjoy music and entertainment, ask Google for information and do a lot more. It is basically a Wi-Fi enabled speaker that makes use of Google’s voice recognition, Google Assistant and Google Now to make daily life easier.

It features a clean design, looks sleek and is portable. The bottom part of Google Home can be changed, which will be available in multiple colors and materials. It also comes with a built in microphone to understand your queries, whether you are nearby, in a kitchen or playing with your daughter. For music and entertainment, it can connect with Google Chromecast and Chromecast audio, both of which have been the hottest selling consumer devices.

Google Home can play your favorite music from the cloud. It also allows you to access, songs, podcast, playlist and genres. You can even send music from Android and iOS device via Google Cast. A simple voice search – Play Viva La Vida in Bedroom, will play the song on a speaker in your bedroom. You can even control videos and the content will appear on the TV connected with the Google Chromecast. That’s not all, Google Home also works as a voice activated remote control with smart home connectivity, allowing you to control the lights, thermostat, fans and also the Nest devices.

Developers can also integrate services allowing you to set alarms, order flowers, book a cab and more all with your voice. Ask for weather, facts on Wikipedia and other things. You can also give permission to let it retrieve your travel itinerary, daily tasks, and the traffic conditions on your route to work.

While Google didn’t announce any pricing info, it did mention that the Google Home will be launched later this year.

Earlier this year at I/O 2016, Google unveiled its Amazon Echo competitor called Google Home. Today, at the Pixel and Pixel XL launch event, Google has finally announced the price and availability of Google Home. Priced at $129 (approximately Rs 8,700), it will go on preorder in the US starting today and start shipping from November 4. However, Google did not mention about availability in India. With the pricing, Google gets an advantage over its competitor, Amazon Echo, which is priced slightly higher at $180 (approximately Rs 12,000).

In a nutshell, Google Home is a hands-free voice activated interactive speaker built to perform simple daily tasks. You can ask Google Home for information, weather updates, stream music and a lot more. It includes a Wi-Fi enabled speaker that makes use of the new Google Assistant and Google Now to make daily life easier. There is a mic mute button on Google home to ensure the mic is only listening when you want it to.

Google Home also lets you control videos and other content that appear on a Chromecast connected TV. That’s not all; you can even use Google Home as a voice activated remote control. With smart home connectivity, you can control the lights, thermostat, fans, SmartThings, Philips Hue, IFTTT and Nest devices.

Google has also made it easier for developers to integrate their services such as ordering flowers, booking a cab and more with voice command. On giving Google Home the required permissions, it can also retrieve details about your daily tasks, travel itinerary, and the traffic conditions on your way to work.
