Google ’s high-end virtual reality platform for Android – Daydream, was announced earlier this year; and the company now says that the Daydream VR SDK has graduated out of beta and is now ready for download with its version 1.0. Google has partnered with Unity and Unreal, allowing users to play on a game engine that they are already familiar with.

“Our updated SDK simplifies common VR development tasks so you can focus on building immersive, interactive mobile VR applications for Daydream-ready phones and headsets, and supports integrated asynchronous re-projection, high fidelity spatialised audio, and interactions using the Daydream controller,” said Google in its blog post.

According to Unity – no prefabs, manual manifest modifications and scripts are required to get started. A user needs to enable VR and add Daydream as a platform to begin making new virtual worlds.

“To get optimal performance and latency from the platform we have done a deep integration with the Daydream SDK to leverage the platform’s asynchronous re-projection and VR performance mode. We have also made it easy to switch in and out of VR mode so that your applications can easily expand to the Google VR audience,” said Unity in a blog post.

Daydream SDK is a platform for VR developers to handle important basic functions that a VR app needs, like spatial audio, head tracking, stereo rendering, and more. Developers can get the Google VR SDK on the Google VR developer site. The Daydream Unity technical preview is available as a separate package currently, but will shop as part of the standard package later on.

Google is now accepting applications for the Daydream Access Program (DAP) so that the company can closely work with more developers to make good content for Daydream. Content created with the Daydream platform will work across all Daydream-ready phones and headsets.
