Gionee has finally launched the Elife S5.5 in India for a price of Rs 22,999, at an event held in Goa. The USP of this newest Gionee device is its sleek form factor with 5.5mm thickness. India is the second country after China to get the phone. The S5.5 should be available starting this month although exact dates are not yet known. The Elife S5.5 will eventually compete with the Micromax Canvas Knight A350 when the phone hits the market.
The Elife S5.5 isn’t just about ultra-portability, but has premium specs as well. It packs in a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, one of the first to be featured on a non-Samsung phone. Performance should be top-notch considering the octa-core 1.7 GHz processor, in keeping with the octa-core trend of today.
On the camera front, the device gets a 13-megapixel rear snapper and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Just like all other Gionee phones, it runs on company’s Amigo OS, a heavily-skinned version of Android, which adds some interesting shortcuts and homescreens in addition to the standard Android screens. Finally, the phone is powered by a 2300mAh battery.
The smartphone supports 3G network working in six different bands and the company also plans to churn out an LTE version of the device by June, though whether this will come to India is unknown.
