Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Gionee has finally launched its ultra-slim Elife S5.1 smartphone in India. The Elife S5.1 which was once the 'world's slimmest smartphone', for a brief period upon launch in September has been priced at Rs. 18,999 in India. The device will be up for grabs beginning first week of December.

Gionee Elife S5.1 is one of the thinnest smartphone in the industry. It was originally launched in September and close to one, it held the record for slimmest handset, but the Elife S5.1 was beaten in the very next month by its Chinese peer Oppo R5, which measures just 4.85 mm in thickness. The latter model is expected to set foot in India next month, until then S5.1 will carry the thinnest smartphone tag in India.

Gionee Elife S5.1 launched in India at Rs. 18,999 : News, News - India Today

Gionee has launched the Elife S5.1 in
India for Rs 18,999. The S5.1 is
Gionee’s slimmest smartphone and is
expected to hit store shelves next
week.

Earlier this year, Gionee said that the
Elife S5.1 has been recognised by
Guinness Book of World Records as
the slimmest smartphone in the
world. However, Oppo’s recently
launched R5 , has replaced the S5.1
as the slimmest smartphone in the
world.

The Elife S5.1 comes with a metallic
frame and glass body at just 5.1mm
thickness. Design-wise, it’s quite
similar to its predecessor – Elife
S5.5.

Though the device is now slimmer
than the Elife S5.5, it comes with
rather toned-down specs. The Elife
S5.1 sports a 4.8-inch 720p AMOLED
display, which is a step down from
the 5-inch Full HD display seen on
the S5.5. It comes powered by
1.7GHz octa-core processor coupled
with 1GB of RAM.

The S5.1 runs Android 4.4 along with
a layer of the company’s Amigo 2.0
UI. On the camera front, there’s an
8-megapixel rear snapper and a 5-
megapixel front-facing camera. The
device also gets 16GB
onboard storage. All of this will be
fuelled by a 2,050mAh battery.

Recently, Gionee had showcased S
series smartphones – S5.1 and S5.5 –
with LTE connectivity . The company
has also put up its new portfolio of
four devices namely, V6L LTE,
Pioneer P5L LTE, P4S and P6, which
are expected to enter the Indian
market in mid-December. In fact, the
company claims that starting 2015,
all its smartphones priced above Rs
10,000 will feature LTE.

Have a Elife S5.5 and absolutely love it. I was a bit unsure about buying it and at the beginning it had problems with battery too but after update a month or so later its been awesome, can get the full day with heavy usage easily.
