After a series of leaks, Samsung has now taken the wraps off the Galaxy C9 Pro. At the time of filing this story, the 6-inch phablet has only been launched in China, with no word on whether it will arrive at other markets. The highlight of the Galaxy C9 Pro is that it is the first device in Samsung’s portfolio to boast 6GB of RAM.
Lately many smartphone companies (especially from China) have pushed the boundaries of how much RAM can be fit into a smartphone. If you think about it, only six months back the idea of a smartphone featuring 6GB of RAM sounded crazy. But now when you think of 6GB RAM, the likes of Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus , OnePlus 3, Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro, OPPO R9s Plus , Meizu Pro 6 and the LeEco Le Max2 come to mind. But the craziness isn’t stopping there and there are already rumors about upcoming smartphones with 8GB of RAM.
Samsung, for one, has already introduced the industry’s first 8GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM. The 8GB mobile DRAM package is based on a 10-nanometer process, and is meant for devices with large Ultra HD screens, dual-camera setup, 4K Ultra HD recording capabilities and VR support among others.
Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro specifications
The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro flaunts a 6-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with 367ppi and 2.5D curved glass on top. Under the hood is Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 653 octa-core chipset paired with Adreno 510 GPU and 6GB RAM. There is 64GB onboard storage on offer, which can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card.
In the photography department, the phablet is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and 1080p video recording capabilities at 30fps. Up front, there is a16-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture.
The Galaxy C9 Pro also features a 4,000mAh battery, fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button, Cirrus HiFi Codec for better audio performance and support for Samsung Pay support using both NFC and MST. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. On the software front, the phablet runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out-of-the-box wrapped under TouchWiz UI.
Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro price
The Galaxy C9 Pro will be available in two color variants — gold and rose gold, and is priced at RMB 3,199 (Rs 31,600 approximately). The device is up for pre-orders in the country, and sales will commence on November 11.
When you look at the specifications and features, the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro does seem like a capable device in the upper-mid-range segment. If it were to launch in India with a price tag around Rs 30,000, it will compete against the likes of the LeEco Le Max2 and the OnePlus 3 to name a few. While the specs and features are somewhat on par with the Galaxy C9 Pro, these smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. The Le Max2 also flaunts a QHD resolution display.
