They don't work with international sites... A no go for me.
They work, you need to ask for international card. Banks are offering domestic too which can't be used outside. I have used my HDFC easy Shop platinum card during my US and Singapore visits very recently.

Also transacted on Netflix for monthly subscription using Rupay card. I guess you shouldn't face any issue if yours is international card. I have Rupay card from SBI which is domestic and clearly written over card to be used in India. Plz check...

Check out features of the same at

International Rupay cards are issued by Discover & Diners card network...Hence all Discover cards, Diner cards (like HDFC Diners cards) & Rupay Cards start with the digit 6...

Internationally, RuPay cards are accepted in all Discover & Diner PoS and ATM networks...International sites/POS/ATMs accepting Discover & Diner cards will also accept RuPay cards...And most international sites/POS & ATMs accept Discover & Diner cards so you will not face any problem with your Rupay cards...Rupay cards will be treated as Discover/Diner cards & your transaction will go through with ease.... :)

Since Rupay cards are issued by Discover & Diner Card network, some Rupay cards (from Axis, HDFC & ICICI) also provide lounge access...

But even after selecting Discover, you can't add your Rupay Card in Paypal. :(

Wrong info...

I just tried now adding my Axis Bank Rupay debit card in PayPal selecting Discover & it successfully got added & confirmed...PayPal charged a small fee to my card with a 4 digit code which I needed to enter in my PayPal account & my card got confirmed right away...

Check the below attached screenshots...

The above screenshots are clear proofs that Rupay cards are treated as Discover cards as they are issued by Discover card network...So, all international Rupay cards will work internationally...

Not many people knows that Rupay Platinum cards also provide complementary lounge access...Mostly 2/quarter so total of 8 accesses in a year which even many high-end debit & most lower end credit cards cant provide...

Here is the complete list of lounges which you can aceess with your Rupay Platinum cards : https://www.axisbank.com/docs/defau...y/axis-rupay-platinum-lounge-list-and-t-c.pdf

The above link is from Axis bank but you can access these lounges with most top banks' Rupay Platinum cards under NPCI Lounge Access Program...

My RuPay card starts with 6 digit but it is not possible to add it at PayPal selecting Discover. It is also an international chip enabled card.

Can't say wrong info exactly as same issue exist for many people. But it should work as explained by them. It works on paper for all but rarely in actual.
