PARIS: Roger Federer blasted French
Open organisers on Sunday after a
fan breached security to grab a
'selfie' on court with the Swiss
great.
The 17-time Grand Slam winner had
just completed a routine 6-3, 6-3,
6-4 win over Colombia's Alejandro
Falla when he was shocked to see a
young fan sprinting towards him on
the showpiece Philippe Chatrier
Court.

PARIS: Simona Halep, the 2014
runner-up, reached the French Open
second round on Sunday as 2009
champion Roger Federer prepared to
start his 62nd consecutive Grand
Slam event.

Seeded players, for the most part,
earned their crust by living up to
expectations on Day 1 of the French
Open. Just four of the 17 seeds —
two men and two women — in action
Sunday failed to advance to the
second round.
The last to go out, as the evening
light dims, is 26th-seeded Guillermo
Garcia-Lopez, losing 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (1),
3-6, 6-3 to 56th-ranked Steve
Johnson in the first five-set match at
this year's tournament.
Earlier, Marcos Baghdatis put out
25th-seeded Ivo Karlovic in straight
sets.
On the women's side, France's 31st-
seeded Caroline Garcia and Peng
Shuai, the 24th seed from China who
retired injured in the second set
against Polona Hercog, are packing
their bags.

PARIS: Defending women's champion
Maria Sharapova reached the French
Open second round on Monday but
was jeered by fans after she refused
to carry out an on-court TV
interview.

PARIS: Andy Murray opened his
latest campaign for a first French
Open victory with a 6-3 6-3 6-1 win
over Argentine Facundo Argueello on
Monday.
