Mukesh Ambani’s telecom arm Reliance Jio may find few cases of fraudulent activities when it comes to sale of their Jio sim cards. eScan- an IT security and software developer, said that their research team noticed a website called -aonebiz.in offering Jio simcards for Rs 199.
When traced, the transactions were done from Faridabad, in Uttar Pradesh and consumers were asked to mention their personal details and credit card/debit card particulars that raised alarm for the research team. The website has been suspended since Friday afternoon.
“eScan's research team unearthed recently a fast spreading SIM Card Scam for Reliance Jio. With the growing demand for Reliance Jio SIM in lieu of the unlimited data services till December end is making people to rush for procuring a Jio Card by any means,” Mumbai-based e-Scan in a statement Friday.
“Our research sent an email to the company. The site was hosted on GoDaddy and we informed them as well,” said Rajat Sahu, marketing head of eScan.
GoDaddy is a platform where one can register and buy their domain names.
Reliance Jio did not respond to an email sent by ET on the same.
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio, a new pure-play fourth-generation (4G) technology entrant, is being supported by a sister company Reliance Retail to drive LYF-branded smartphones sales and offering free Jio SIM cards through its store network, in addition to as many as 1,200 distributors.
The retail arm of the energy-to-logistics conglomerate Reliance Industries has also managed to rope in 125,000 mobile resellers and plans to double the number to 250,000 by 2016 end.
Jio has said that as many as 1.6 crore subscribers has subscribed to its newly-established telecom network in the first month, since launch of commercial services on September 5 with a Welcome Offer valid which offers data and voice for free till December 31 to all subscribers of the service till December 3.
