He is best known as a voice in the commentary box, even more than the player he was. Former Indian opener Arun Lal has revealed his battle with jaw cancer. Speaking to The Hindu newspaper, Lal said, “It’s a rare and dangerous cancer. The symptoms were detected in time (in January) before I went through a rigorous treatment process. Thank God, I have been able to hold my place.”
He further goes on to add, “Obviously it is like a new life. It was tough but I am indebted to the fantastic job by the doctors. I got calls from close friends.” Lal has been missing from the commentary box for quite some time. Little did anyone know what he was going through.
Yuvraj Singh is the other name in Indian cricket who has fought cancer. He said, “I know what it feels like because I have been through this. It’s nice if you can share someone’s pain and help him overcome it. I always try to understand the mindset of the patient because it mentally defeats you.”
