According to reports, England team director Andy Flower has been sacked from his position following his team's disastrous outing in the series Down Under.

According to The Telegraph, managing director of England cricket Paul Downton, who is conducting a review of England's shambolic performance in Australia, called Flower for a meeting at Lord's on Thursday, 30th January 2013 to tell him that his time as England coach was up.

The Telegraph added there would be a formal announcement by the ECB on Friday that Flower was "stepping down" having effectively been given no choice but to quit.

Flower, who took over as coach in 2009, has been part of England's three Ashes victories while he was in charge when England won the World T20.

Following the humiliating 5-0 white-wash in the 2013-14 Ashes series Down Under, English media said Flower was ready to quit unless he was given guarantees that Kevin Pietersen would not be selected to play under him. This was after rumours of a long-standing rift between South African-born Pietersen and Flower.

After the recent debacle, Flower had said in a statement that no snap decisions would be made despite the humbling by England's oldest rivals. However, he had refused to answer queries regarding his own future with the England team.

Flower's sacking was not unexpected and he many not be the only one to be given the axe. England bowling coach David Saker had also expressed his concerns that he may be one of the casualties of a troubled tour of Australia.
