Fletcher on the way out,BCCI contacts Flower
Former cricketers are calling for skipper MS Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher’s head following India’s debacle in New Zealand and it looks like, at least, Fletcher will pay the price.
HT has learnt that the BCCI is preparing the ground to crack the whip on the support staff, including Fletcher.
Highly-placed sources in the BCCI told HT that a Board official had held a round of talks with former England coach Andy Flower.
“Nothing has been finalised as these are preliminary talks with the Board likely to invite applications from suitable candidates for the post next month,” added the source.
“Routine process would be followed before handing the responsibilities to the new coach. But so far, Flower has been contacted and let’s see who win the race,” he said.
Fletcher’s contract was extended for a year in March 2013 by the working committee. The former Zimbabwe cricketer was assigned the responsibility after Gary Kirsten left the high-profile job following a successful 2011 World Cup.
Dhoni and Fletcher drew flak after India lost the Test series in New Zealand. The defeats in South Africa followed by the hammering in New Zealand led experts to demand a change in guard, especially in the longest format of the game.
While India have plummeted since Fletcher took over, England achieved notable feats under Flower.
