India batted first and posted 221, a challenging target back in those days. Vinod Kambli, who was at his peak in 1993, top-scored with 86 from 116 balls, a knock inclusive of 10 fours. Ajay Jadeja and Mohammad Azharduddin made 30s. In response, the Proteas folded up for 178. Salil Ankola was the surprise star performer with 3 for 33 while Jadeja also chipped in with two wickets. For South Africa, Jonty Rhodes top-scored with 56.
India vs Australia (November 3, 1996): This was the 9th match of the Titan Cup, which India won by five runs. Batting first, India posted an impressive 289 for 6 on the board. Azhar top scored with 94 while skipper Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid scored fifties. Thanks to Mark Taylor’s 78 and Michael Slater’s 52, Australia got close, but Anil Kumble’s three-for and Robin Singh’s two wickets, pushed India towards a five-run win.
