Fit-Again James Anderson Returns to England Squad for ODI vs Scotland
London: England recalled leading one-day international wicket-taker James Anderson for its 13-man squad to face Scotland next week, while batsman Joe Root returned from injury.
Pace bowler Anderson has not played ODI cricket since June, when he broke the England wicket-taking record in the format, taking his 235th against Australia in the Champions Trophy. He was rested for ODIs against Australia and the West Indies during the winter.
Root broke his thumb in March, but was back playing for Yorkshire, while seamers Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan remain injured. Nottinghamshire left-arm pace bowler Harry Gurney was the sole uncapped player.
Otherwise, the first squad chosen by new coach Peter Moores and the revamped selection panel featured no surprises. The match against Scotland is on May 9 in Aberdeen.
There was no recall for Middlesex pace bowler Steven Finn, who left England's tour of Australia early in January due to poor form.
Graham Gooch, the batting coach since 2009, departed earlier on Thursday, handing over the responsibility to Graham Thorpe.
