Fake currency notes of Rs 100, Rs 1,000 increased over last three years

The fake currency notes of Rs 100 and Rs 1,000 are on a rise over the last three years as per the latest Finance Ministry data presented in the ongoing Lok Sabha.

As per the information, 6.3 lakh fake notes were detected in financial year 2015-16 as against 4.9 lakh in 2014-15.

Even the Reserve Bank of India and banks have reportd about rise of counterfeit notes in the last 3 years.

The report also informs that despite Rs 100 and Rs 1,000 currency notes increasing, fake Rs 500 currency notes have come down.
Interestingly. only 134 counterfeit ten-rupee notes were caught in 2015-16.

Rs. 29.6 crore worth of counterfeit notes were found in 2015-16, a rise from Rs. 28.7 crore in 2015 in value terms.
