Mark Zuckerberg is in New Delhi and will meet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow. But
ahead of the meeting when asked about his
agenda for it, the Facebook CEO said that he
would be mostly listening to what Modi has to
say about the Digital India plan.
"One of the things I am really excited about is
that your Prime Minister has this whole Digital
India initiative... We are just one company. We
can't create the connectivity around the world
on our own," said Zuckerberg. "So we are just
going and working with people who are already
working on (this issues). For example, we are
working with governments that are trying to
get their whole population online."
"You asked the question that what I would be
asking for (from PM Modi), but I am more
interested in learning what we can do to help,"
he added.
Zuckerberg is in India to talk about Facebook's
Internet.org project, which aims to bring
millions of more people online by enabling
more affordable and viable internet
connectivity.
The project was launched by Facebook and a
few other companies last year. Since then
Facebook has also announced its intention to
use drones and satellites to beam internet
connectivity in remote areas of the world.
