Facebook has introduced the new photo sharing app dubbed Moments in India. It is now available for Android and iOS users. Facebook has updated the app as well, introducing a new video feature which creates an automated video collage of photos, minimum six images, and with music as well. The company made the announcement via a video uploaded on Vimeo. However, the update will be rolled out in phases.
The app once installed, will work through a smartphone’s entire camera roll. With Facebook’s facial recognition software, users can grab anything that features what it recognises as an image featuring Facebook friends. Users can also search for photos of themselves, and friends and also save photos other people sync as well. These photos from the Moments app can also be shared social networking platforms such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram but one disadvantage is that you cannot share it via Twitter.
With the new feature added to Moments, Facebook is offering us an app similar to Flipagram. A report by The Verge points out that when a user wants to share their Flipagram creations with friends, they will still have to go through Instagram or Facebook. Moments seems to have the greatest advantage against Flipagram because it eliminates the extra step of syncing with Facebook when one wants to share the collage.
Facebook Moments is developed by Facebook’s Creative Labs, who have also created Paper, Slingshot, Mentions and Hello apps. Facebook has further added new features such as the option to create own Moments from scratch, see the progress of photo uploads and use the app in 34 different languages as well.
