Facebook Home has crossed over 500,000 downloads on Google Play since it hit the store on 16 April. Consultant Benedict Evans had tweeted the figure. You can check out his tweet below:

Facebook Home app hasn’t exactly got great user reviews either on Play Store. For now its average rating stands at 2.2 stars with users complaining that the app was a battery killer, and some saying it needs to be more user-friendly.

Facebook’s Home app can be downloaded on Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, HTC One X and HTC One X plus. The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 will also support the device.

Once you install the app, makes Facebook the most prominent feature of your smartphone. From Cover Feed as your Homescreen to Chat heads in all app, the app launcher is great if your life revolves around Facebook.

Here’s a quick look at what changes to expect on your phone after you download and install the app:

• Cover Feed: As soon as you turn on your phone, you will see posts from your News Feed which is called Cover Feed in Android Home. You can swipe through to a status message or photo to see more, double tap to F-like a post, and comment right from Cover Feed itself. The Cover Feed also shows Cover Photos from your friends’ Facebook profile in the background as you browse through a post.

• Chat Heads: This allows users to send and receive texts and Facebook messages from the same spot. The floating Chat Heads let you reply to conversations while you have other apps open. For instance you can reply to a message while watching videos. You can drag the floating heads to the bottom of the page if you want to close the conversation.

• Notifications from Facebook appear right on your home screen. You can open a notification with a tap.

• App Launcher: You can keep your favourite apps in the App Launcher to access them quickly. The App Launcher also lets you post to Facebook. Users have to press and hold an app then drag it where you want in the App launcher.
