The reforms suggested by the Justice RM Lodha Committee, which will now be implemented by both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the state associations, are set to bring a windfall to former players, who are now set to have a say in the running of the game.
"One of the recommendations of the report is that every state association must provide membership -with a right to vote -to all the former India cricketers coming under their umbrella. So, we're set to induct 17 new members in our association in our next meeting," PS Raman, the Vice-President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), and also the chairman of the BCCI's legal committee, told TOI on Friday ."In TNCA we've always had former players as administratators," he added.
The maximum memberships, in this case, will have to be provided by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), as around 70 of their cricketers have gone on to play for Mumbai. "We had already made this provision in our constitution.All our former India cricketers are our members too," said former India cricketer Brijesh Patel, who is the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
A former player, who will represent the interests of current players, is also likely to be part of the executive committee of every state association.
While most of the associations already have a CEO (Chief Executive Officer), they are likely to appoint a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) and a COO (Chief Operating Officer) in the coming days too. They will also need to include a nominee of the Accountant General (AG) of that particular state in the association.
