As we all know the current deal for the broadcast of EPL games in India is expiring by the end of this season. The rights for the 2016/17 to 2018/19 were awarded in the UK to Sky & BT Sport earlier this year. So, does anyone has any news as if when will it be done for the Indian subcontinent? Will STAR bid for it aggressively or will Sony with ESPN in its kitty outbid STAR?

Sky sports right is only for UK or whole broadcasting right ?

I mean,
Will there be a separate auction for each subcontinent/country or Sky sports will resell their right like MSM do in IPL ?

If it is the second then 100% confirm that Star will get that right

For the 2012/13 to 2015/16 season, the bidding amount by STAR was $145m & MSM bid $125m. So this time around Sony ESPN will wildly bid for the most watched football league in India. I also want Sony ESPN to win the rights as STAR doesn't seem to be interested in broadcasting anything other than cricket & domestic leagues.

Now the issue is tht MSM has spend millions on acquiring La Liga, Seria A & FA Cup..
They badly need another 2 :HD channels at the moment ;

Leave the PL with Star for now though Star Sports has become stupid-local-eccentric channel :dodgy

MSM along with ESPN are to launch a few sports channels in the coming months. That will certainly happen before the IPL.
If anyhow MSM outbid STAR for EPL rights, they will certainly beat STAR into submission atleast in the non cricketing genre. I have full confidence that they will go for it at any cost. STAR doesn't seem to bother about the EPL fans and it is more than likely that they will give up on EPL. They have become local centeric as you rightly said above.
