The England One Day squad on Monday met with injured servicemen as part of a morale-boosting visit to the Ministry of Defence's Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court in Surrey.
Players and support staff were given a guided tour of the facility which provides care and rehabilitation for army, navy and airforce personnel who have been injured whilst serving.
The 58-bed centre, which has more than 300 dedicated civilian and medical staff, oversees the treatment of complex injuries including those of amputees and brain-injured patients, plus a large volume of work to treat musculoskeletal injuries.
ECB Managing Director – England Cricket, Hugh Morris said: "We are extremely grateful to Headley Court for giving our players and management an opportunity to meet with injured service personnel and see at first hand the marvellous work that the doctors, physiotherapists and nurses do to improve the quality of their lives.
England One-Day captain Alastair Cook said: "No-one can visit Headley Court without being incredibly moved by the determination and motivation shown by the patients – or the dedication and commitment of their carers. It is a very inspirational place and on behalf of the England team I would like to thank everyone connected with the centre for making our visit possible."
Sgt Major Bob Toomey, Royal Marines Liaison Officer, Headley Court, said: "On behalf of the patients and the staff at Headley Court, I would like to thank the team and all at the ECB for arranging this visit which has been a great boost to the patients' morale."
