ECB to probe 5 county matches over match-fixing suspicions
London, May 23: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) disclosed that five county matches played since last six years would be probed upon over charges of corruption.
The matches are being severely probed after the ECB issued allegations against Lou Vincent and Naved Arif for their corrupt activities in Sussex, in 2011.
Vincent, a former New Zealand player is indicted with a total of 14 offences in a 40-over match against Kent and T20 quarter final against Lancashire and, Arif, a Pakistani player has been charged with six offences in match against Kent where he forfeited 41 in 6 no-wicket overs.
According to The Guardian, both players have been provisionally suspended from cricket worldwide and are now imposed with a life ban, although they have effectively retired anyway.
Paul Downton, managing director of the ECB said that match-fixing was an enormous concern and the Board had taken severe steps to investigate matches that have been played during the last six years
