ECB not to press charges against Cairns: reports
Chris Cairns will reportedly not be charged with any match-fixing allegations by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). According to a report in The Telegraph, senior ECB sources "have indicated that Cairns will not face any charges in [England]."
The decision comes at a point when ECB recently banned Pakistan's Naveed Arif for his role in giving away a county fixture. Considering Cairns was under contract with Nottinghamshire in 2008, the allrounder must breathe a sigh if relief with the decision, despite denying any wrong-doing.
The former New Zealand allrounder was accused by his former team-mate Lou Vincent, who said Cairns tried to get him to fix matches while playing for Lancashire in 2008. The Telegraph also reported that there are some ongoing talks between Vincent and ECB after he was banned from playing in the Bangaladesh premier League after being charged with 14 offences.
Vincent had earlier confessed to fixing offences and it was in fact his evidence that led to charges against Arif. Former Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Ashraful has also been banned for eight years for his role in fixing during the 2013 edition of the BPL.
