Bypolls for three assembly seats in Delhi will also be held simultaneously during the first phase on November 25.
The dates for polling are November 25, December 2, December 9, December 14 and December 20.'
The multi-phase voting in the state most affected by militancy and the state gripped by Maoist violence will be another test of the Congress’ wilting electoral returns at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going great guns.
The polls will be crucial for the Congress, which just lost the Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections. The losses saw the Congress not having control over any state across north, west, east and central India.
Poll debacles in the two states would leave the Congress in power in only 9 of India’s 29 states: Karnataka, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Uttarakhand.
