Mobile commerce platform Paytm and online marketplace player Snapdeal have locked horns with Paytm moving to Delhi High Court alleging data theft by the latter's subsidiary.
Paytm has alleged that sellers on its portal have shared their passwords with Snapdeal's subsidiary, which is being used to mine data.
Paytm has also alleged the subsidiary of using its logo and name without authorization.
Any data with respect to a seller’s transactions on Paytm is its propriety asset and such data will give Snapdeal an unfair advantage if the data is mined through dubious means, Paytm has said.
Snapdeal, however, argues its subsidiary only allows its sellers a single-window facility to track sales across various e-commerce portals.
The Delhi HC has issued notice to Snapdeal’s subsidiary directing it to file a reply and in the interim refrain from using Paytm’s logo or access data sourced from Paytm's site.
The next hearing in this matter is scheduled for July 11.
