Eluru: An RTC bus driver who suffered a massive heart attack parked the vehicle to the roadside and saved the life of 60 passengers. Simhadri collapsed on the driver's wheel and died as the passengers heaved a sigh of relief. The incident took place at Yadavolu village in Devarapalli mandal in West Godavari district on Wednesday.
Simhadri, who belonged to Jangareddygudem bus depot, was driving the bus when he suffered a heart attack at Yadavolu. Realising that he would ram the bus into the oncoming vehicles, Simhadri slowly turned the vehicle to the roadside and parked it safely. He later collapsed on the steering and died. Passengers, who were in danger as Simhadri was negotiating the bus after the attack, breathed easy. Some of them even cried for the driver. "He showed remarkable alacrity in taking the bus to the side and saved our lives. Had he collapsed on the wheel in the middle of the road, it could have resulted in a major accident," one of the passengers said.
