Suspense surrounding the future of India’s coach continues to linger. It is understood that after the Board of Control for Cricket in India approached Rahul Dravid for the post, the former captain has politely refused the offer. He is not keen on taking the job any time in near future. Meanwhile, it is reliably learnt that the BCCI top brass has ruled out Ravi Shastri after he demanded `8 crore per year.

After India’s exit from the WT20 semifinals, board secretary Anurag Thakur had said that decision on the post of team director/head coach will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly.

A couple of days later, it emerged that the BCCI and CAC had turned towards Dravid to take up the role. But according to information in board circles, the former captain has turned down the offer.

Interestingly, Shastri who was harbouring interest to continue as team director, seems to have demanded a hike, meaning the BCCI will now look at other possible candidates. “There is no change in Dravid’s stance to what he told us in September. That said, Tendulkar might speak to him about this. But at the moment, it looks very remote that he will take it up. As far as Shastri is concerned, the board at the moment is not keen on giving him a new contract. The CAC has been told to zero in on a candidate. Until and unless they decide on someone, the BCCI won’t take a call on this,” sources in the know told Express.

Meanwhile, three other members of the support staff — Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and Bharathi Arun — whose contracts also expired on March 31, will join their respective Indian Premier League franchises. The trio are set to be offered new contracts by the BCCI to continue in their roles.

While Bangar and Sridhar are with Kings XI Punjab, Arun is associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore. One understands that like last year, the BCCI might not give them new contracts until the IPL gets over, as it could again bring up the conflict of interest issue.
