because all these years, how dare people living in cities have a comfortable Wi-Fi experience

To bring new spectrum bands such as 6GHz for auction, the Department of telecommunications would need telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to recommend its reserve price. The plan is to bring 6GHz spectrum in the next auction, possibly in 2026.

The Indian government has released a draft to de-license the 5925 MHz to 6425 MHz band, so that this spectrum can now be used without paying license fees. This move will promote next-generation technologies such as AI, robotic surgery, e-health, AR/VR and high-end video games in India.

De-license means - any company or person can use this band without government permission and payment. It can be used in Wi-Fi hotspots, smart devices, or IoT networks.

Centre notifies draft rules for delicensing lower 6 GHz band - ET Telecom

The ‘Use of Low Power and Very Low Power Wireless Access System including Radio Local Area Network in Lower 6 GHz band (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules, 2025’ apply to the 5925-6425 MHz band, according to the notification.
