Trai has said India should adopt APT700 band plan for 700-MHz spectrum band with Feature-driven development based frequency arrangements

Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has formed a committee to examine the recommendations of the Telecom regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on International Mobile Telecommunications-Advanced (IMT-Advanced) Mobile Wireless Broadband Services.

The committee has been asked to submit its report on Trai recommendations on the issue within a month, according to a recent discussion. Trai’s recommendations, on March 19, 2013, on the matter mainly dealt with duplexing schemes and band plan of 700 MHz (698-806 MHz).

The regulator has recommended that India should adopt APT700 band plan for the 700 MHz spectrum band with Feature-driven development (FDD) based frequency arrangements.

The committee would be chaired by member (technology) Anil Kaushal, and will have eight more members. The committee may invite experts’ opinion, if required.

The committee may also seek further recommendations from Trai on the matter in the best interest of the country and the service providers.

The committee will continue to provide its views to the government until a final decision is taken, it is noted.
