DJI Mavic Pro is a Compact Foldable 4K Drone that can fly at 40 Miles/Hour (60Km/hr)

Lately, drones are shrinking in form factor and are also becoming increasingly portable. GoPro introduced a foldable drone just last week and ever since eyes are fixated on DJi anticipating a similar offering from the company. DJI’s latest produce is the Mavic Pro Drone which has bagged the title of “smallest 4k drone,” thanks to its compactness. GoPro has been showcasing how easy it is to fold the drone and tuck it away in a backpack.

The smaller size achieved by the props housing the rotors fold over the body and thus makes the entire profile much smaller. The DJI Mavic Pro can be tagged along in a backpack or even a generously sized purse and this is one of the primary USP’s DJI is banking upon. Now the small size doesn’t always mean a compromise on the features or hardware and DJI gets a majority of features on its flagship Phantom offering. An array of sensors is employed to aid in obstacle avoidance, subject tracking, autonomous landing and added stability in indoors.

Moving on, the Mavic Pro packs in the same sensor as the Phantom 4, i.e a 12-Megapixel camera with support for Adobe DNG RAW. It is also capable of shooting 4K video at 30fps and FHD at 96fps. The drone also offers a rather commendable 27 minutes of battery life with a top speed of 40 miles per hour. The live stream range has been enhanced and is now pegged at 4.3 miles as opposed to the 3.1 miles on the Phantom 4. Additionally, the drone will also live stream the video feed in 1080p to third party streaming services including YouTube, Periscope, and Facebook.

The trickery doesn’t just stop here and the Mavic Pro comes equipped with a gesture control which will let you control the drone with hand gestures by waving your hands at it. For instance, making an imaginary frame gesture with your hands in front of the drone will trigger the selfie feature. It’s not just the drone that has lost flab and it is also the controller that has been relatively shrunk in size and comes with a small display for quintessential telemetry. Also, DJI has ensured that the drone comes with reduced dependency on the remote control and most of the controls including take off, fly, return to home and land can be accessed on the smartphone.

The Mavic Pro will start retailing at $999 which is pretty expensive as opposed to the drone from Yuneec but DJI is also offering the Mavic Pro at $749 if you are ready to let go of the remote control.

I just wished DJI had introduced a much more basic and affordable version of the Mavic Pro one that is same in form factor but cuts down on the advanced features. DJI has always managed to keep a large clout of drone flyers happy with their offerings and the Mavic Pro will mostly continue doing so with all the features stuffed inside a much smaller form factor.
