Dell has announced an 8.4-inch tablet that’s just 6mm thick, making it the skinniest tablet yet – stealing the crown away from the 6.4mm Sony Xperia Z3
Tablet Compact and the 6.6mm
Samsung Galaxy Tab S. In fact, it’s
also slimmer than the newly launched iPhone 6 that’s been hogging the limelight for a while now.
The tablet sports a no-nonsense
gunmetal-grey aluminum chassis and an edge-to-edge design. Gizmodo got a hands-on with the device and says there’s space on the left to hold the tablet, which houses speakers and two of the tablet’s four cameras. Four
cameras might seem excessive, but Dell claims that the extra cameras give the tablet an understanding of how far away
the objects are in your photographs and allow you to manipulate them accordingly. It uses a software called Intel RealSense to do this. Using three
cameras, the software can even figure out the distance between any two points in the picture that you pick out.
In a sense, it helps you get the Lytro-style image where-in you can adjust the focus after the fact.
