Dell Announces New Inspiron Laptops and All-in-One PCs
Never too soon to think about back to school season, is it?
Dell announced updates to its product portfolio for the back to school season (we know, summer isn't even here yet). Really, the company is hoping this new line will accommodate people of all lifestyles and budgets. The laptops are new Inspiron 5000 series machines with 14-, 15-, and 17-inch offerings. Dell also has a couple of new desktops in 20- and 23-inch all-in-one form factors.
The new Inspiron 5000 series is powered by Intel's 4th generation Core i-series of processors with Intel HD Graphics 4200/4400. Configuration will depend on how much you're willing to spend, but all three models have the option for a Core i34020U, a Core i3-4030U, a Core i5-4210U, or a Core i7-4510. There's also the option for AMD Radeon HD R7 M265 2 GB (on the 14 and 15) or Nvidia GeForce 820M or 840M 2 GB (17 only). The 14- and 15-inch Inspiron 5000s come with support for up to 16 GB of dual channel RAM, while the 17-inch version supports up to 8 GB. All three come with 500 GB of storage as standard, with the option to increase that to 1 TB before checkout. They all feature full HD panels with 10-finger multitouch. The 14-inch model is rated for up to 8 hours, 9 minutes on Mobile Mark 12; the 15-inch model is rated for up to 7 hours, 33 minutes. Yes, those are the very specific figures provided by Dell. Actual battery size is a prismatic 3 cell 43 WHr or 4 cell 58 WHr on the 14 and 15, and a cylindrical 4 cell WHr on the 17. How much time you can eke out is going to depend on your configuration.
The 3000 series is available in 20- and 23-inch offerings. The AMD-powered Inspiron 20 3000 3045 comes with the option for either AMD's E1-2500 APU with Radeon HD 8240 graphics or the A4-5000 APU with Radeon HD 8330 graphics. The display is actually a 19.5-inch 1600 x 900 TN/WLED display. There's also up to 1 TB of storage, up to 8 GB of RAM, optional Bluetooth, 2x dIMM slots, optical drive and DVD drive, 2x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, and a bundled mouse and keyboard. The Intel version comes with options for the Core i3-4130T, Pentium-G3220T DC, or Celeron-G1820T DC. Graphics are covered by either integrated Intel HD 4400 (on the Core i3), Intel HD on the Pentium, or AMD Radeon R5 A240 1 GB. Other than that, the specs for the Intel-based Inspiron 20 3000 match the AMD model. The 23-inch version is the Inspiron 23 5000 series that comes with options for Intel's Pentium-G3220 DC, Core i3-4130, i5 4440S, or i7 4770S. The 23-inch Full HD IPS/WLED panel has a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Graphics come via Intel HD (on the Pentium), Intel HD4400, Intel HD4600, or optional AMD Radeon R7 A265 2 GB. There are also 2x DIMM slots, up to 12 GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 1 TB of storage, optical drive, DVD+/-RW, BluRay RW, optional Bluetooth, 5x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, and a bundled keyboard and mouse.
