Delhi is among the top 50 global destinations when it comes to the number of international visitors, says a recent survey.

Ranked at 48, the Capital witnesses a footfall of 2.58 million international visitors a year, who spend about $1.5 billion, excluding airfare.
The findings are a part of the sixth annual Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index released on Thursday.

Apart from Delhi, four other Indian cities are part of top 100 global destinations for 2016. Topmost in ranking is Mumbai at 27, with Chennai following it at 30. The other three Indian cities are Kolkata, ranked at 62, Pune, ranked 91 and Bengaluru ranked 97. “Mumbai and Chennai stand out as the fastest growing destination cities globally with at least one million overnight visitors in 2016,” the survey report says.

Asia Pacific

Mumbai is also the only Indian city to enter Asia Pacific’s top 10 destination cities in terms of international overnight visitors in 2016. Ranked at number 10, right after Shanghai, the city boosts of 4.86 million visitors along with a visitor spend of $3.6 billion for the year 2016, the survey says.

“With an evolving business landscape and thriving tourist destinations, India has been witnessing a high influx of overseas travellers for both business and other purposes,” said Parag Bhatnagar, vice-president, marketing, South Asia, Mastercard.
