Hindi GEC Colors has picked up the broadcast rights to Box Cricket League (BCL), a property co-owned by Balaji Telefilms and Marinating Films.
In its second season, BCL, which brings together cricket and television stars, will be aired on Colors and Colors HD starting 28 February, every Sunday at 4.30 pm.
Viacom18’s free-to-air (FTA) channel Rishtey will air the repeats of the matches.
BCL had debuted on Sony Entertainment Television (SET) last year.
Colors CEO Raj Nayak feels that the property has enough steam to be a good entertainer. “We are positioning BCL on the lines of NBA.
So every game will be an episode of one and a half hour spread over six months,” Nayak said. When asked if there will be enough viewers at 4.30 pm, Nayak said, “It will take some time, but our effort will be towards building it as a habit. We will scale it up as we do our other shows.”
While the earlier edition had eight teams, the second season of the cricket league featuring TV stars will have 10 teams named after 10 cities—Ahmedabad Express, Kolkata Babu Moshayes, Chandigarh Cubs, Delhi Dragons, Jaipur Raj Joshiley, Chennai Swaggers, Mumbai Tigers, Pune Anmol Ratan, Rowdy Bangalore and Lucknow Nawabs led by celebrities like Sunny Leone, Nandish Sandhu, Ajay Chaudhry, Mrunal Jain, Anita Hassandani and Kamya Punjabi.
