CNN is hiring hundreds of people and developing dozens of programs for a subscription streaming service that will launch early next year.

This will set a bad trend. Documentaries by CNN on HBO Max is fine. Setting up an entire different streaming service of same is little excessive. I am pretty sure they will end up merging with some other streaming provider as news channel as an OTT is not realistic and feasible.

Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down CNN+ and is expected to provide details to staffers Thursday, according to two people familiar with the matter, one of the company’s first significant maneuvers since completing the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery just two weeks ago.

Spokespersons for CNN and Warner Bros. Discovery could not be reached for immediate comment.

Chris Licht, the incoming CEO of CNN, sent a memo to staffers Thursday morning about “an important meeting” to be held at noon, and is at that time expected to inform employees about the decision, these people said. Licht has already told Andrew Morse, the CNN executive vice president who oversees the newly-launched streaming-video outlet, of the decision, these people said. Morse could not be reached for immediate comment.
