Chennai: Top-flight cricket is likely to return to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in October. N Srinivasan, president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, said during the prize distribution ceremony of the association on Saturday that they are confident of hosting Champions League T20 matches at Chepauk in front of full galleries.

"This year we have been unable to host IPL matches at Chepauk because of certain reasons. The issues are being sorted out and we are hoping that the Champions League T20 matches will take place in the stadium," Srinivasan, who will take over as ICC chairman later this month, said.

Chennai Super Kings are one of the four Indian teams to have qualified for the tournament and if Chepauk gets the clearance, MS Dhoni's boys are likely to play all their games here.

Chepauk couldn't host IPL matches because TNCA was unable to get clearance from Chennai corporation to use the G, H and I stands. TNCA decided to shift CSK's games to Ranchi, which came as a huge disappointment for local fans. Coach Stephen Fleming, too, stressed on how CSK missed out on home support at Chepauk, which has turned into a fortress for the team over the years.

It's understood that TNCA bosses have been in dialogue with the state government on the issue, and a formal clearance is awaited soon.
