After being reinstated as the chairman of the
BCCI Ground and Pitches Committee, Daljit
Singh has tried to ensure that all the grounds
in the country provide wickets that are not
only sporting, but also fit the demands of the
particular format. That will be his main focus
when he inspects the wicket at the Ferozeshah
Kotla on Friday ahead of Saturday's second
ODI between India and West Indies.
Daljit's role will be to give the final go-ahead
after Central Zone's head curator, Taposh
Chatterji, spent time with Kotla's chief curator
Ankit Datta two weeks back. Interestingly, this
will be Datta's first international match.
Speaking to MAIL TODAY, a senior DDCA
official said that Chatterji had already provided
Datta with the required programme to help
prepare the wicket.
"Ankit has good knowledge and also worked
under Venkat Sundaram for close to three
years. And Taposh briefed him as to how
exactly he must go about rolling the wicket,
watering it and cutting enough grass to ensure
that the wicket holds through the 100 overs
and helps the batsmen slightly.
"It was after discussing with Taposh that Ankit
and DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan
decided to prepare the centre wicket. Daljit is
expected to come on Friday and check if all is
set and if there are any last minute
adjustments that need to be made," the official
said. Chief curator Daljit Singh to inspect Kotla wicket
