At least 47 passengers were killed and 22 injured when a massive fire broke out in the New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express in Nellore city of Andhra Pradesh in wee hours of Monday.

Nellore District Collector B Sridhar, who led the rescue and relief operation, said that the S 11 coach of the train was completely gutted in the fire, which broke out at around 4:20 am.

"The fire was first spotted by the gateman as the train was leaving Nellore for Chennai and he immediately alerted the station manager of Nellore. He brought the train to a halt," Sridhar said.

There were 72 people inside the coach and there were fears that the toll could mount further.

The fire was due to electrical short circuits.

It is high time now railways change all the coaches which are made in 1960-70 and too old, they should replace all the coaches with brand new improvised LHB coaches, otherwise there will be more accidents like this.

may their souls RIP. my deepest condolonces to the grieved family members.

railways could have a policy to install atleast fire extinguishers in all the compartments which could have saved the lives but these people will never understand. accidents will happen and ministers will give compensation thats all file closed.

some kind of enquiry will happen but the recommondations of enquiries will never be implemented.

My condolonces also to all the family, who lost their loved ones in this horrible accident.
