Explained: What the Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and TN is all about

A dispute since the British Raj, the Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on the Cauvery issue today.

The 765-km-long Cauvery river originates in Kodagu district’s Talacauvery in Karnataka and flows through Haasan, Mandya, and Mysuru districts before entering Dharmapuri, Erode, Karur, Trichy, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and other districts in Tamil Nadu. The river and its tributaries also flow through Kerala and Puducherry.

Landmark Cauvery Verdict: Tamil Nadu's Share Of Water Reduced By Court

Tamil Nadu says it's disappointed, but will study judgment and take 'appropriate steps'

Navneeth Krishnan, counsel for Tamil Nadu, says the Tamil Nadu government will study the judgment and take appropriate steps. He said they will respect the law, and that the government is "definitely" capable of handling the situation.

However, he said that he is disappointed with the reduction in water to the state.

I saw one point in News18 tamilnadu channel from today cavery verdict stating

"This Verdict will be valid Next 15 years from the issued -SC"

What does it means ?? What happens after 15 years ?? One more review ??

Might be that time again they will decide based on climate and storage condition that time?

Not only one review, it should be reviewed periodically as climate is changing so it may come in future that Madras requires more water than Bengalore so review provision should be there

Then how they said judgement is final ??

So obviously this is not final judgement right ??

I am sure Court order has direction to govt to form a committee to review water management after every 15 years, so judgement is final
